On Sunday (October 11), we all took a trip to the Great Wall! It is about a 2 hour bus ride from Beijing, although we got there a little faster.
First we had lunch at a restaurant in a green house, which was pretty cool:
When you arrive, you first walk through a huge tourist area with tons of great souvenirs. Purchasing from street stalls in China is all about bargaining and walking away, which I've gotten better at. After the trip I bought a tshirt that said "I have climbed up the Great Wall" (I love the formality of that sentence for a souvenir tshirt). The woman selling it started at 160 RMB (absurd) but I got the price to 35 RMB (~6 USD?).
I soon found out we had to hike up this mountain to reach the wall, which involved ALOT of stairs
The views were pretty great though, so who cares?!
It turned out that the wall itself is a whole bunch of stairs as well :)

(see the people climbing with their hands? Steep!)
But once again, the views were completely breathtaking:

And of course, the whole group has a lot of fun together:
(notice our accessories?)
We found a dog
about to drop our mixed #hen hao
And I have finally come around to the usefulness of selfies:
Some people live dangerously:
And at the end, of course, I had to take the alpine slide down. Only Shana and I took it, but it was so worth it. Unfortunately we were sandwiched between a slow woman in front of us and an angry man behind us. We kept stopping to let the slow lady go ahead, but the man behind me would get angry.
Luckily, we did not die.
As we got on the man told us that in order to turn we had to lean. I asked what happened if we didn't, and the man did not respond.

Shana got some good videos. Luckily, they have no rules against taking selfies while sledding! Yay safety!
